Mir Arab Madrasah

Mir Arab Madrasa was built in 1530-1536 (936-942) by Bukhara emir baydullokhon with the reverence to shaykh Abdullo Yamaniy.

Shaykh Abdullo Yamaniy whose full name is Said Abdul loh al-amaniy was known as “Arab emir” or Mir Arab among the local people f Bukhara. He was bom in Yaman and in the age of 22 rejected the throne fYaman and in the search ofknowledge came to Samarkand.
In Samarkand Hoja Ahror Valiy who at the time was one of the leading sachers and shaykhs of Naqshbandiya tariqah accepted Mir Arab into his ;uidance and apprenticeship. In short period of time Mir Arab himself has jDwn to be teacher himself and was given a permission to teach. After the ieath of Hoja Ahror Valiy his son Muhamma Bakir introduced Said Vbdulloh al-Yamaniy to Bukhara emir Ubaydullokhon. Within short >eriod of time he was recognised and became well-known for his wisdom u*d emir acepted him as his spiritual teacher. Bukhara emir respected his eacher so greatly that sometimes when Mir Arab was returning from a oumey he would come out of city walls in foot to greet him.
Mir Arab was one of the leading and revered spiritual teachers of his time, his contribution to the development of naqshbandiya tariqah is irreplaceable. He was greatly respected among ^rich and poor of Movareunnahr for his deep understanding and knowledge of sufism fundamentals.
Mir Arab financed and stood at the head of well digging, also he has lead the construction of city walls in the town of Savron (Sayram), Turkistan. Moreover, his name is associated with construction of a lot of water canals and creation of many gardens in surrounding towns of Bukhara, such as Shafirkan, Vobkent, Gijduvan as well as in many other towns. He lead the excavation of main Shafirkan water canal and named it Sultonobod, after Ubaydullokhon ibn Sultonkhon. At present there still stands Mir arab castle in Shafirkan. In 1530 Mir Arab with the money presented by Bukhara emir Ubaydullokhon in the centre of the city Mir Arab started the construction of this madrasa, but passed away before the construction works has come to an end.
This madrasa stands out from all other madrasas which once stood in their hundreds in the city with its two domes. As you enter the madrasa at the right hand side dome there is a madrasa mosque and under the the left hand side dome you fill find sanctuary. There are number of graves in the sanctuary. The main one is grave of Mir Arab, at his foot by his own will is placed Bukhara emir Ubaydullokhon. Also there are graves of emir family members and grave ofZakaryo who was Mir Arab’s son in low.
The madrasa building consists of four floors and 114 rooms. It should be noted that Mir Arab madrasa is well-known not only as architectural heritage but also as a school which greatly contributed to the rise of Islam and science in the world.
This madrasa during its 500 year history has played an important role in preparation of religious experts for many countries such as: Russia, Iran, and Afghanistan and Central Asian countries. Famous 19"' century scholars of Naqshbandiya teachings like Qozi Askar, Mufti Ikromcha, Domlo Hasancha, Sulaymon hoja, Domlo Ismoil, Domlo Qosim, Domlo Izomiy were at some point of their life studying in this madrasa. Moreover, the founder of religious office of Central Asian and Kazakhstan Muslims mufti Bobokhon ibn Abdulmajidkhon and his mentor celebrated 19Ih century scholar of hadith Miyon Malik studied and taught for many years in Mir Arab madrasa.
